My Creative Space: Boat Shed in the ‘Burbs

At the bottom of our garden is a small tin shed…which is now my new creative space….

Boat Shed in the 'Burbs

Its a bit British Antarctic expedition hut meets shed on the wharf. It used to look like this…..

In need of some paint

Its been a long time in the making and is my new Mummy hidey hole for blogging and making stuff. The skiff sails are still in the roof and there are two more walls to paint but having a whole desk to myself after years of sharing the dining room table is absolute heaven. On sunny weekend afternoons you might find me in here with my three year old virtual assistant (who has moved into the desk next door), drinking tea, dreaming up my latest hairbrain idea and generally pottering. Who said sheds were secret mens business?

Its a bit chilly in there right now but as the weather warms and I find a few spare hours…. I’m hoping to spend some more time in there making these…..

Which I’m a bit proud to say have made it into the odd shop lately…

I love seeing where people do their pottering, bloggers, artists, shed lovers, whatever. Where do you do yours?

  1. Oh wow! Your lady shed is beautiful! How serene to have it after all this time!!! I like the sound of your PA too, cute!

Congrats on your cards too. They are really special. I can imagine so very happy people seeing those lovely

    1. Ha ha! lady shed, I like it! Reg is not impressed. My assistant has a slightly different sense of style. I should have included a picture of her desk and organisation skills too…thanks for dropping by :)

  2. I love this Charley. I don’t have special spot yet… but when we move house in a few week my biggest dilemna is which room to claim as my dedicated office. Not a room that is shared as a spare room for guest/place to hide washing and other bits when friends come over! I am going to be spoilt for choice. It’s a toss up between a room inside the house or a bigger room outside attached to the garage. Will definately share my progress. Well done on getting your cards up and running.

    1. Thanks Jodie :) Looking forward to hearing all about the new place. What an exciting time. I recommend installing a lock on your office in case you get offers of assistance from small people!

  3. I love it, now I want a mummy shed!

    1. Sheds come in all shapes and sizes. Even a tool shed that is tiny can be made in to a workspace. Check out the shedworking site

  4. I love the way you have decorated your shed. I wouldn’t know it was a shed unless you told me. Like Virigina Wolf, I believe every woman needs a room of her own!

    1. I quite agree Alex! I also have to admit I have photographed its “good side”. There are two other walls that still need painting and there is some stuff there needs sorting and stwowing in the attic but I’m getting there!

  5. LOVE your lady shed. Pottering is where it’s at. I have an office/art room upstairs: it’s very English/attic style with a leadlight window and a juliette balcony that overlooks the garden. I’ve been rugging up and disappearing up there every night for the past week, and it’s wonderful just having time to do … stuff. You know … potter, write, play. I think it’s good for the soul to do what you love in a place that inspires you. Nice work, Charley. :)

    1. Your attic sounds divine Karen. My attic just got converted to storage for this shed to become a reality. Pottering is essential therapy for modern life :)

  6. Beautiful! I wish I had a shed or space other than my desk in the darkest corner of the apartment!
